Picture of Past Officer Professor David Silk"As we move towards the millennium there are many important nutritional issues that need progressing to support our philosophy of improving the nutritional care of sick patients."

"High on my list of priorities is education. The era of CME (Continuing Medical Education of NHS Consultants) is now upon us and BAPEN has received recognition, as a specialist body, by the Royal Colleges. This gives us an excellent opportunity to continue to have a high profile in the field of postgraduate education."

"Study days and courses are being organized in addition to our flourishing multidisciplinary approach to educating newly formed Nutrition Support Teams."

"BAPEN has an important organisational role to play in the field of nutritional support. Standards of good practice have been established, as have clinical practice techniques that are taking place in the hospital and home setting."

"These are exciting and important times for our Association and I look forward to trying to meet up to the challenges that face us."
