From ‘NICE to ICE’ – news from BAPEN’s explorer, Dr Mike Stroud
- Last Updated on 24 January 2013
Following Mike’s inspirational Pennington Lecture at the BAPEN conference in 2005 ‘From Ice to NICE – lessons from nutritional extremes’ many of Mike’s BAPEN Colleagues developed a keen interest in his extreme expeditions.
Many BAPEN members may not be aware that Mike is currently in Antarctica with Sir Ranulph Fiennes for the start of ‘the Coldest Journey’ in aid of ‘Seeing is Believing.’ Mike has recently sent us several ‘blog style’ emails and has kindly agreed that we can share these with BAPEN colleagues.
I am delighted to report that Mike will be returning home in February and will be continuing his leading edge nutrition work chairing the NICE IV Fluid Guideline, the Nutrition and Hydration Action Alliance, BAPEN’s quality improvement committee and co-chairing the Malnutrition Task Force, whilst co-ordinating the research and being the official spokesperson for the Expedition in his spare time.
