BAPEN’s Malnutrition Action Group (MAG) launches today at the BAPEN Conference (Harrogate, 29 November) new ‘MUST’ charts for screening for malnutrition to cater for taller, shorter, heavier and lighter patients.
Professor Marinos Elia, Chair of MAG says: “After wide consultation and field testing MAG has expanded the body mass index (BMI) chart and developed new alternative weight loss charts for use with ‘MUST’. These changes are designed to improve the understanding and implementation of screening for malnutrition in routine clinical care.”
The weight range has been extended to cover patients weighing 30kg to 170kg. The height range has been extended from 1.46 to 1.94m.
A wider choice of charts is now also available for professionals to use. There is a choice of charts with both metric and Imperial measurements or just metric. Additionally charts are available that cover current and previous weight and also current and recent weight loss.
The 'MUST' Explanatory Booklet has also been updated.
