The new report reveals massive hike in the cost of malnutrition in England – new figure to be announced at launch

The report entitled ‘The cost of malnutrition in England and potential cost savings from nutritional interventions’ which will be published on 30th November is the result of three years of collaborative research by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Southampton Biomedical Centre and the British Association for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (BAPEN).

The report evaluates the enormous clinical and economic burden of malnutrition that continues to exist in hospital and community settings in both adults and children. It also reveals that this growing economic burden continues to be under-recognised and under-treated to the detriment of individuals’ health and social care services and society as whole.

Understanding that appropriate nutritional support can save rather than cost money, has major implications to commissioners, health and social care providers, and the public.

Please join the NIHR and BAPEN for the launch of this pivotal new report.
