BAPEN supports Carers Week

This week, BAPEN is supporting Carers Week – an annual campaign which raises awareness of caring, highlights the challenges unpaid carers face and recognises the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK. It also helps people who don’t think of themselves as having caring responsibilities to identify as carers and access much-needed support.

Dr Nick Thompson, BAPEN President, commented:

“It is so important that we recognise the outstanding contribution carers make to communities and families up and down the country. In particular, we recognise that carers can have a hugely positive impact on vulnerable peoples’ nutritional intake. Carers often support people during mealtimes, and it is crucial that they are empowered to deliver individualised, timely and effective nutritional care. Equally, the nature of caring roles means that opportunities to eat and drink can be irregular, and it is so important that carers also have the bandwidth to look after themselves.”
