Happy New Year to all our Members and Core Groups.
Thank you all for the wonderful work you do over this busy period, and we hope you managed to take some well-deserved time out with friends and family. As ever and inspired by our Rest, Restore, Regain (RRR) Clinical Supervision Programme, the NNNG encourage all members to ensure you take some time to reflect on 2023 and not just in a professional manner.
As we reflect as a committee on 2023, the NNNG saw a fantastic symposium at the BAPEN Conference, CPD sessions, updated Good Practice NG Guidelines, The RRR Clinical Supervision Programme and a well-attended NNNG conference in York.
We would all love to congratulate the BJN Nutrition Nurse of the Year winner 2023, Charlotte Rubio. Charlotte said: “I have been lucky to be able to talk about the award at a number of meetings with senior staff, which has then led to reaching out to other groups to promote what the nutrition team does and ensure staff who need to access our training can do so.”
We now look forward to the nominations for the 2024 CN Awards which remain open until 1st April 2024.
NNNG Conference 2024 is in its preparation phase as we get ready to bring the nutrition community to Southampton on 20-21st June. Early Bird registration is now open via our website, and we really hope to see many of you there. In addition to Conference, we will aim to host a face-to-face AGM whilst so many people are present so if you have any ideas/suggestions for the NNNG please bring them along or let us know.
It’s been fantastic to read the NNNG members-only discussion board on the NNNG website in the last few months with lots of interesting questions, views and opinions. Please continue to ask questions and share experiences as we learn so much from each other here!
As always please don’t hesitate to contact us.
Remember Good Nutrition Needs Nurses.

Happy New Year! Hope you all managed to have some rest over the festive period. The BPNG team are looking forward to a busy 2024. We hope you will join us.
The BPNG team had a very successful multidisciplinary (MDT) turnout for their symposium titled, “Prescribing in Nutrition Support” at the Annual BAPEN Conference in Edinburgh in November last year. The session was kicked off by Emma Wilkinson from Cambridge University Hospitals, providing an overview of considerations for administering medicines down enteral feeding tubes. This was followed by a surgical case presentation and medication changes in a “nil by mouth” patient by Robbie Cord from Glasgow Royal Infirmary. The final session by Priya Mistry from University Hospital Southampton was a summary of non-medical prescribing in nutrition support, covering changes in legislation and commonly prescribed medication groups.
In January this year we held our face-to-face Advanced Practitioner education event in Birmingham. The study was well attended by all members of the nutrition support MDT. There were informative presentations on managing complex patients on parenteral nutrition (PN) with liver/renal disease and diabetes. This was followed by an interactive and informal panel discussion and review of some challenging cases. In the afternoon we had some insightful presentations around current medication procurement challenges and PN stability.
Our latest webinar was on the topic of aluminium contamination in PN on 7th February 2024 at 11am. We were very lucky to have had speakers Dr Kathy Gura from Harvard Medical School, USA and Professor Stefan Muhlebach from University of Basel, Switzerland. We are also very pleased to announce our next Fundamentals in PN study day at the BMA House in London on Wednesday 5th June 2024. This is open to all MDT members who are new to PN. Registration for both events to open soon. Keep checking our website for further details: www.bpng.co.uk.
