Proposed Changes to BAPEN's Constitution

Ahead of the BAPEN Conference in Harrogate we would like to explain a very important proposal that will be put to a vote of all members at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) on the 20th of November.

The current structure of BAPEN relies on a Council that is formed from its Executive (President, Hon Secretary, Hon Treasurer and Senior Officers Executive), Core Groups (PINNT, NNNG, BPNG, PENG, BAPEN Medical, BSPGHAN), standing committees (BANS, MAG, Education & Training and Programmes), Special Interest Groups (BIFA, NG SIG) and associate organisations (Nutrition Society, BSG). The Executive enact the will of Council. The Trustees of the charity are the President, Hon Secretary and Hon Treasurer.

Most similar organisations have moved to having a Board of Trustees and it is proposed that BAPEN appoints a Patron, a President of the Trustees, 2-5 additional external Trustees to form a Board of Trustees together with the BAPEN Officers, executive officers and the chair of BAPEN Faculty (to be renamed the BAPEN Independent Advisory Committee, IAC). This Board of Trustees would be invited according to their experience and connections and elected by Council.

Coventry-Leicester Intestinal Failure Network (CLIFNET) Education Event

The second annual Coventry-Leicester Intestinal Failure Network (CLIFNET) Education Event was held at the Leicester Tigers on the 26th September and was attended by over 40 delegates from around the region and beyond.

The day started with a review of the achievements of the first year of the network, including joint documentation, audit work, the development of a website (https://clifnet.org), and the recording of an educational podcast on high output stoma management. Presentations included the role of the radiologist in diagnosing, mapping and finding alternative feeding routes, experience of IF surgery in Leicester, the long-term considerations for IF management and quality of life assessments to improve patient experience during outpatient review. Three regionally produced audits were presented in the afternoon, with Jo Elston (Regional Nurse Manager FK/Calea) the worthy winner considering HPN Nursing Administration Techniques.

The day was truly patient focused with a presentation from a current HPN user about her IF journey and we also proudly unveiled our new logo, designed by a HPN patient.
