Today, BAPEN has published a new position statement on malnutrition, Balancing disease-related and psychosocial aspects of nutritional care. Co-authored by Emma Parsons, Emily Walters and Nick Thompson, the statement addresses the complex factors that influence malnutrition risk, taking into account clinical conditions as well as psychological, social, and environmental influences.
Addressing malnutrition through early detection, evidence-based interventions and collaboration across healthcare providers supports BAPEN’s vision for a sustainable and patient-centred healthcare system. Within this statement, we outline four key recommendations to support the best possible quality of nutritional care for those at risk of disease-related malnutrition in the UK.
We hope this document proves useful for communication with colleagues and stakeholders.
