Webinar Series: Advancing Clinical Nutrition Knowledge and Practice
Due to the success of the 2025 webinar series, BAPEN is excited to announce that there will continue to be a monthly webinar throughout 2026 designed for healthcare professionals, nutritional scientists, and anyone passionate about clinical nutrition. This series will feature expert-led discussions, cutting-edge research insights, and practical strategies to enhance nutritional care.
Aims
- To provide evidence-based education in clinical nutrition for healthcare professionals, nutritional scientists and healthcare students.
- To highlight the importance of good nutrition and the implications of malnutrition on patient outcomes in all clinical settings.
Each session will tackle key topics such as:
- Managing malnutrition in diverse populations.
- Innovations in artificial nutrition and hydration.
- Multidisciplinary approaches to improving patient outcomes.

Dr Caroline Childs
Dr Childs’ research has investigated the role of dietary components upon immune function and the gut microbiota; nutrition and psychology; and the use of image analysis to quantify food intakes.
Dr Childs’ collaborations with clinical colleagues span research, medical education and the work of professional societies, building a unique profile of expertise and outputs.
Dr Childs is Associate Dean (Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity) within the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Southampton, Clinical/Medical Advisory Council member for the Nutrition Society, and member of the the British Association of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (BAPEN) Council.
Dr Childs is passionate about widening participation within research and education, and the support of early career researchers.
Nicky Wyer
Consultant Dietitian – Intestinal Failure
Nicky is the lead Dietitian for the nutrition team & severe intestinal failure service in Coventry, where she has worked for more than 20 years. The severe intestinal failure service supports patients across a regional catchment area, both during inpatient admission, and following discharge on home parenteral support. Nicky is passionate about developing research within dietetics, having completed her doctorate in 2015. She is currently leading several research studies and chairs our department research group. She has key roles on several national committees related to intestinal failure, nutrition support, and dietitian prescribing, and has recently taken on the role of deputy chair of the intestinal failure registry (adults).
