Webinar Series: Advancing Clinical Nutrition Knowledge and Practice

Due to the success of the 2025 webinar series, BAPEN is excited to announce that there will continue to be a monthly webinar throughout 2026 designed for healthcare professionals, nutritional scientists, and anyone passionate about clinical nutrition. This series will feature expert-led discussions, cutting-edge research insights, and practical strategies to enhance nutritional care.

Aims

  • To provide evidence-based education in clinical nutrition for healthcare professionals, nutritional scientists and healthcare students.
  • To highlight the importance of good nutrition and the implications of malnutrition on patient outcomes in all clinical settings.

Each session will tackle key topics such as:

  • Managing malnutrition in diverse populations.
  • Innovations in artificial nutrition and hydration.
  • Multidisciplinary approaches to improving patient outcomes.

Speaker Biographies

Alison Young

Alison Young

Alison Young has been involved in nutritional support since 1998 as a Nutrition Specialist Nurse. In 2002, she became the first Consultant Nurse in Nutrition and since then has continued to advance her knowledge and skills in nutritional care and management. She represents Nutrition nurses on forums and committees locally, regionally, and nationally. Teaches on local, regional, National, and international study days and courses and always keen to share her knowledge and skills to enhance the skills of other healthcare professional. She has an active clinical role performing in advanced endoscopic enteral tube related procedures and placement and trouble shooting of a variety of intravenous access devices. In 2016, she was one of the business team who developed R Homecare HPN, the only NHS HPN service in the UK. This service provides first class care delivery to HPS patients in the Merseyside region and has excellent reviews from patients and healthcare providers.

She retired from her role as Consultant Nurse in Nutrition and Lead Nurse for R Homecare HPN service L(LUFHT) in January 2025. Her aim is to share the extensive knowledge and skills attained with Nutrition teams and organisations across wider organisational boundaries.

Alison engages in the Nightingale Trust Nutrition Support course for Nurses, an active committee member on both BIFA and BAPEN faculty and is supporting organisations in training and study days in Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and England.

Priya Mistry

Priya Mistry

A credentialled consultant pharmacist in nutrition support and intestinal failure working at the tertiary intestinal failure centre at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust since 2015. Has been a non-medical prescriber in parenteral nutrition since 2006. Research interests focus on the safe provision of parenteral nutrition and conducted master’s level, published research based on PN-related patient safety incidents on a national reporting system. Teaches nutrition on the undergraduate pharmacy course at Reading University, as well as local, regional and national training for national pharmacy/nutrition professional organisations and Southern Home Intestinal Failure Network (SHIFNet).

Joined the British Pharmaceutical Nutrition Group (BPNG) Executive Committee in 2016, was Secretary in 2019, and chair since 2022. As chair focus has been driving education agenda and leading on resources such as Drugs and Enteral Tubes (2023), Guidance on Pabrinex Shortage (2024), Position Statement on use of filters for PN administration (2024). Is passionate about building and supporting the pharmacy workforce in nutrition support.

Nicky Wyer

Nicky Wyer

Consultant Dietitian – Intestinal Failure

Nicky is the lead Dietitian for the nutrition team & severe intestinal failure service in Coventry, where she has worked for more than 20 years.  The severe intestinal failure service supports patients across a regional catchment area, both during inpatient admission, and following discharge on home parenteral support. Nicky is passionate about developing research within dietetics, having completed her doctorate in 2015. She is currently leading several research studies and chairs our department research group. She has key roles on several national committees related to intestinal failure, nutrition support, and dietitian prescribing, and has recently taken on the role of deputy chair of the intestinal failure registry (adults).
