BAPEN is pleased to introduce a new expression of our purpose: Better Nutrition. Better Health. Better Lives.

While our mission remains unchanged, these three statements capture the impact we are working towards and the difference that effective nutritional care can make for individuals, communities and the wider healthcare system.

At its heart is a simple but important principle: good nutrition is fundamental to health. Better nutritional care can improve recovery, resilience and wellbeing. Better health outcomes help people maintain independence, participate fully in daily life and enjoy a better quality of life.

Disease-related undernutrition affects millions of people across the UK, yet it remains too often overlooked and under-recognised. Timely identification and effective management can make a meaningful difference to patient outcomes. Good nutritional care is not optional within healthcare; it is a core component of prevention, treatment, recovery and ongoing care.

For BAPEN, this expression also represents the collective ambition of our multidisciplinary community. Every day, our members work across hospitals, community settings, care homes, academia, industry and the voluntary sector to improve nutritional care and outcomes for patients.

Better Nutrition. Better Health. Better Lives. reflects not only what we do, but why it matters.

It is a statement of the future we are working towards together: a future in which better nutritional care helps more people achieve better health and better lives.
