Complete BAPEN’s survey of screening tools used to identify malnutrition

BAPEN News

BAPEN invites UK dietitians and nutrition support team members from any NHS Trust, health or social care setting to complete a 5-minute survey about tools used to screen for malnutrition risk in adults or children.

Screening is an integral part of the NICE Clinical Guideline 32, Nutrition support for adults. ‘MUST’ has been cited as the most commonly used tool in the UK, but there seems to be increasing interest in other tools being used. It would be helpful to understand any changes in practice alongside screening tools used within the paediatric population.

“Whilst ‘MUST’ seems to be the most commonly used tool across the UK, it is helpful to learn about other tools which are being used to screen for malnutrition risk in both adults and children. This alongside knowing why different tools are being used will lead to better understanding of malnutrition screening in the UK.” Dr Emily Walters, BAPEN’s Malnutrition Officer.

The survey is open until 21st January 2024, and is available to complete here.
