Webinar Series: Advancing Clinical Nutrition Knowledge and Practice

Due to the success of the 2025 webinar series, BAPEN is excited to announce that there will continue to be a monthly webinar throughout 2026 designed for healthcare professionals, nutritional scientists, and anyone passionate about clinical nutrition. This series will feature expert-led discussions, cutting-edge research insights, and practical strategies to enhance nutritional care.

Aims

  • To provide evidence-based education in clinical nutrition for healthcare professionals, nutritional scientists and healthcare students.
  • To highlight the importance of good nutrition and the implications of malnutrition on patient outcomes in all clinical settings.

Each session will tackle key topics such as:

  • Managing malnutrition in diverse populations.
  • Innovations in artificial nutrition and hydration.
  • Multidisciplinary approaches to improving patient outcomes.

Speaker Biographies

Charlotte Rubio

Charlotte Rubio

Charlotte trained in Leicester and qualified as an RN in 2004. Since then she has worked predominantly in Gastro in a variety of roles.

Charlotte started as a Staff Nurse on a Gastro medical ward where she completed her BSc in Nursing and Professional Practice. Charlotte then took on the role of Inflammatory Bowel Disease Nurse, undertaking Nurse lead clinics, transition clinics and overseeing patients on biologic therapy.

After a period in day case medicine, Charlotte joined LIFT in October 2016 as a Nutrition Specialist Nurse, was promoted to Senior Nutrition Nurse in 2019, during this time she also completed her PG Cert in non-medical prescribing.

In 2022 Charlotte took over the lead role in the Adult Nutrition Support Team and is currently a committee member of NNNG and NGSIG

Rebecca Mugridge

Rebecca Mugridge

Becky completed her undergraduate training in Nutrition and Dietetics at King’s College London in 2009, and prior to joining the team in Leicester she managed a complex cohort of Intestinal Failure patients at The Royal London Hospital where she developed her skills and knowledge alongside the nutrition team.

For the last 10 years she has worked at the Leicester Royal Infirmary, managing patients on parenteral nutrition in hospital and at home due to a wide range of clinical conditions including inflammatory bowel disease, severe trauma and motility disorders.

Her post-graduate training has included the St Marks Intestinal Failure course and completion of the Parenteral and Enteral Clinical Update course for Dietitians as well as helping to develop local policies and resources for patients requiring parenteral nutrition. Becky has also completed her non-medical prescribers course and has contributed to research around quality of life in patients on home parenteral nutrition and decision making in prescribing parenteral nutrition.

Angela Holohan

Angela Holohan

Angela, a qualified nurse has worked in the adult nutrition support team at University Hospitals of Leicester for the last 6 years, currently holding the post of senior nutrition nurse. The role supports both inpatient and outpatient parenteral nutrition and enteral tube assessments alongside trust wide teaching. Special interests include surveillance of vascular access for parenteral nutrition and palliative HPN.

Nicky Wyer

Nicky Wyer

Consultant Dietitian – Intestinal Failure

Nicky is the lead Dietitian for the nutrition team & severe intestinal failure service in Coventry, where she has worked for more than 20 years.  The severe intestinal failure service supports patients across a regional catchment area, both during inpatient admission, and following discharge on home parenteral support. Nicky is passionate about developing research within dietetics, having completed her doctorate in 2015. She is currently leading several research studies and chairs our department research group. She has key roles on several national committees related to intestinal failure, nutrition support, and dietitian prescribing, and has recently taken on the role of deputy chair of the intestinal failure registry (adults).
