BAPEN is a proud member of COVID-19 Airborne Transmission Alliance (CATA), an association of professional and scientific bodies in the health sector bringing technical expertise or relevant lived experience of COVID-19 in in the healthcare system. The Alliance represents over 65,000 healthcare workers and began campaigning in early 2020 for recognition of the airborne route of transmission and for all healthcare workers to be entitled to adequate personal protective equipment (PPE).
As part of the UK Covid-19 Inquiry to examine the UK’s response to and impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, Professor Kevin Bampton provided a witness statement on behalf of CATA which is now publicly available. The statement is comprehensive, effectively presenting CATA’s case that the country was not prepared for any pandemic, let alone the Covid-19 outbreak.
Professor Bampton’s response to the Inquiry’s questions was acclaimed by the King’s Counsel for the Welsh Bereaved Families on the first day of the Public Inquiry.
