BAPEN is excited to celebrate the first-ever Intestinal Failure Awareness Day on the 1st February 2025. Taking place across Europe, this milestone is dedicated to drawing attention to IF and addressing the urgent need to standardise patient care in healthcare settings.
Known as 1F Day, the milestone is spearheaded by the Leading Intestinal Failure Equality (LIFE) initiative, a multistakeholder group of experts, healthcare professionals and patients from across Europe, calling for greater action to achieve equal IF care for all. Their focus is on highlighting disparities in access to IF treatment and campaigning for a future where healthcare professionals collaborate across borders to improve care for patients.
To mark 1F Day, PINNT is co-hosting an event at Salford Care Organisation from 11am on 1st February to build support for those living with intestinal failure. PINNT’s extensive work to support patient who rely on artificial nutrition is crucial in raising awareness of the challenges facing patients across the UK and challenging inequalities in access in nutritional care in all health settings.
PINNT Chair, Carolyn Wheatley MBE, commented:
“PINNT is delighted to be co-hosting this event during which we hope to raise awareness about intestinal failure and meet people living with it as well as people who seek to learn more. PINNT’s networking with patient groups around the world is a key part of our learning and sharing objectives.”
BAPEN President, Dr Nick Thompson, added:
“Prof Simon Lal and PINNT are part of an international campaign led by the European Nutrition Health Alliance (ENHA) to improve the care of those living with IF. Both Simon and Carolyn (MBE) sit on the steering committee to raise awareness and clinical standards regarding IF across Europe. BAPEN is delighted to support an inaugural event at Salford and the important work they are carrying out on behalf of IF patients in the UK.”
