Anita Sangera

BAPEN’s New Professional Affairs Officer

Anita, could you tell us about yourself?

Anita Kaur Sangera

I’m an Advanced Pharmacist in Intestinal Failure and Parenteral Nutrition at University Hospitals Birmingham. For the past 15 years, I’ve worked with patients with complex intestinal conditions, and my career has always centred around patient-focused care, teamwork, and making treatment as safe and effective as possible. That’s what drew me to BAPEN – it reflects the same values I care about in my own work.

Having spent much of your career working in nutritional support, what motivated you to take on the Professional Affairs Officer role?

Nutritional support has been a big part of my career for many years, so this role feels very close to my heart. I’ve seen the difference good nutritional care can make to patients and their families, and I wanted to play a more active part in supporting that work through BAPEN.

As you step into the role, what are you most looking forward to contributing to BAPEN’s community?

What excites me most is the opportunity to work alongside people who care about nutritional support and patient care. I’m looking forward to contributing to that community, building connections, and helping share ideas and good practice across BAPEN.

Looking ahead, what would you most like BAPEN members to know about you and your focus for the year ahead?

I’d like members to know that I’m approachable, committed, and genuinely passionate about nutritional support. This year, I want to listen, learn, and do what I can to support members, encourage education, and help strengthen the professional voice within BAPEN.
